Characters:
Holy:
Apparently it is possible to get a secret character with 80,000
HP and 8,000 MP with a weapon called the angel saber, who can
use any magic or summon materia unlimited times. To get him you
supposedly defeat both the Emerald and the Ruby weapon and get
all the 1/35 solider, then go to where aeris is buried, where
you will see the white materia at which point it will break out
of it and join your party.
Ryu:
Apparently Ryu from breath of fire 3 is available as a secret
character. Supposedly if, while in the shinra mansion at the
first disk, you enter in the combination Right 45, Left 16, Right
84, Left 69, you should hear a click for each number. Then,
while on the third cd you go back to midgar using the key and
talk to the man in the tunnel near Aeri's house (they don't
specify which one. Then go to the weapons dealer in sector 5 and
buy 10 of each item. He'll tell you about a little boy changing
into a red dragon. Go to the church where you met aeris and
there should be a little dragon on the roof. Talk to it and
choose to say hungry?. The dragon will change back into ryu and
join you.
Teioh:
Teioh is the champion racing chocobo from gold saucer. It
apparently is possible to get his rider joe. To get him, you
must have six S class chocobo's. Go to the saucer and find dio
in one of the game areas. He'll start to brag about his champion
chocobo racer. Go and sign up for a chocobo race and choose the
4th chocobo on your list. You'll race one on one with Joe, if you
beat him he will join.
Boxer:
You can also get a character named boxer who is an goblin from
the goblin island. Just fight around the island and you will run
into him, defeat him and you will enter a screen just like
yuffie. Supposedly he will join you then.

In depth thoughts:
Zack:
From someones submission he makes a case that the man in the
pipe in midgar might be zack. Zack, as you may know was also
exposed to the same degree of mako that cloud was. So if cloud
can live after a sword went through him can't zack live after a
couple shots from those wimpy shinra soliders. It may be him,
but to bad he can't join.

Magic and stuff:
Nova spell:
It is thought that sephiroths major spell, super nova can be
obtained. In short kill both emerald and the ruby weapon. get
the prizes from the kalm traveller, then go back to junon and
talk to everyone there, go to the beach where you saved
priscilla, and it should be there. If not then you might have
missed some one to talk to.
Silver chocobo:
Apparently, breed two gold chocobos witha saraha nut, it can go
under water.
